LAUREN BAKER
Lauren Baker is a British contemporary multidisciplinary artist who exhibits internationally. Her work explores human connection, metaphysics and the expansiveness of the universe. Lauren's signature neon works portray the power of energy through her poetic typographic and celestial chakra artworks. She is passionate about environmental issues and sustainability and uses light to express these concepts in her work. She is an experimental artist whose practice expands across multiple disciplines and mediums to address the vastness of the universe. Her work involves making the unseen seen, her visual aesthetic is built around either emitting or reflecting light. Many of her pieces directly reference the frequencies emitted by astronomical bodies, as well as those attributed to plants, human organs and chakras. Recent works visually interpret unseen energy. Lauren listens to sound frequencies and gets in a meditative state to digitally paint auras and energy, she then incorporates diamond dust, neon and kinetic elements to create celestial artworks.
Baker’s most intricate work, sold for £420,000 in Qatar, is a Steinway grand piano encrusted with half a million crystals (Feb 2015). The Crystal Tigress; a sculpted life-size tiger head encrusted with 52,000 crystals, which toured Asia, and was endorsed by Jimmy Choo and Jaime Winstone, fetched £30,000 at the tiger conservation charity auction for Save Wild Tigers. (2014).
Her large scale celestial public art installations have been commissioned in the UK as well as the Middle East. Most recently, sculptures - inspired by the frequency of the Sun and the Moon - both at 4 metres tall, were placed in a Unesco Protected World Heritage site in the desert (Mar 2020). Lauren has created installations at The V&A, Tate Britain and Tate Modern and her work are held in collections worldwide. The 3.3 metre public light art installation, 'Luna Woman Power Totem' was recently commissioned (Feb 2022) by Enfield Winter Lights, curated by Artist Hive Studios. Created in celebration of the suffragette movement in 1914.
For Frieze 2022, Baker collaborated with BMW Culture X Frieze to launch public light art; ‘One Thought Changes Everything’.

Lauren's limited edition prints are an extension of her light art and neon work that she takes enormous pleasure in creating for fans of her work to have in their home and office. Each print is created using the highest quality museum grade papers and pigments, with various gloss varnish overlays to mimic the quality of her neon typography artworks. Prints of her galaxy explosions and chakra series 'The Colour of Energy' are all hand-finished with diamond-dust, a medium that Lauren uses extensively in her artworks.
